Apartment Hunting

The past couple of weeks have been a bit hectic and stressful....lets just say I have developed adult acne because of it.  In any case I have been apartment hunting.  Which to be quite honest is one of my least favorite things to do and on top of that I am apartment hunting for a place where Dan and I can start our lives together after we get married.  No to mention he isn't here and we don't talk consistently enough for me to rehash the apartment I just saw before we apply for it.  No big deal right?  Just ask the huge zit that has been hanging out on my face for the past week how I feel about it.

I have to-do lists coming out of my ears and I can't seem to cross anything off my list between planning the wedding, going to work, plans with friends and family, figuring out graduate school...oh and don't forget apartment hunting.  It has all been a lesson in deep breathing and finding the humor and goodness in just about every situation.  Right now I am in the middle of detoxing my whole life (a whole post on what that's about later) and it has brought new light to this very stressful time in life.

I wish you could see some of the places I have looked at for apartments and better yet some of the characters I have dealt with.  I am talking toothless neighbors, landlord butt cracks, peeling wall paper, naked children, glass sliding bedroom doors, mirrors on the ceiling, I have even sat in the middle of construction site in a sundress waiting to meet someone...oh I could go on, but I will spare you.  But throughout all of the craziness, the thing that makes me giggle is picturing the faces Dan would be making if he was by my side....I am pretty certain he would be hightailing it out of some of these apartments and heading for the hills.

Thanks Dan for the comedic relief!

So take my advice when the world seems to be weighing on your shoulders....laugh a little.  I am pretty certain there is always something at least a little funny about the situation.

Going to look at another apartment tonight.  Wish me luck and pray there is no one in their underwear.

Hot In The City

I absolutely love the heat and always have.  Even when I was living in Hawai'i I would sleep with just my windows open....no fan and definitely no air conditioner.  Boston has thrown us some pretty warm weather in July and if you have ever lived in a city in the summer you'll now what I am talking about when I say it has been HOT.  The concrete and all the buildings seem to trap in all of the heat.  But like I said I love it....

....but there are a few that aren't fans of the heat.

They tried to stay cool but these poor fuzzy creatures have been hot and lazy for weeks.

City Garden

I love living in the city but there is one thing I miss and that is having a yard or a garden.  But I make due on the little front porch off my room.....

And i can proudly say I planted all of those myself.  Even though its not the big old garden I wish I had (hopefully someday), it does have a sort of charm doesn't???

Strawberry Fields

One of the first weekends in June I headed north to Maine with the intention of picking strawberries all weekend.  I was going for the stained red lips for a week because I spent all weekend in a strawberry field eating my weight in deliciousness look, but my mom and I only spent about a half an hour picking and had MORE than enough strawberries.

I did in fact eat some (or a lot) but did contribute much to the pounds of strawberries we did pick....

The biggest problem?  Well what to do with all of these wonderful strawberries?  So we brought some to friends, froze some for smoothies, and of course munch on them ourselves.  Then we made strawberry shortcake and ate it for.......dinner, yes dinner.

I didn't feel particularly back for stuffing my face with summer's sweetest treat.  Strawberries are full of antioxidants; berries in general help fight free-radicals that are in your body and reduce your risk of things like heart disease and cancer.  So I went ahead and ate my strawberry shortcake (more than once).

I made home made whip cream...which was one of the best things I have ever tasted.

And also made homemade biscuits that came out just fabulous (recipe coming soon!).

And there you go.....

.....dessert for dinner with a little healthy on the side.

Fireworks, Parades, And A Really Good Tan

Fourth of July has come and gone which is always bittersweet.  Fourth of July is my all time favorite holiday - there are no greeting cards, no expectations, no presents, and its WARMEither way I had a surprise week off and I spent it with family, friends and of course my sweet cats.

This is a little peak into what my weekend/week looked liked and it was fabulous (warning - heavy picture post)

I finally saw Megan - she is in from Hawaii for a month or so and we made it to the beach after a very humorous Friday night in Boston!

And then there was the annual Sanford 4th of July Parade...

Oh and don't forget the Shapleigh Girls in the pool after...so ridiculous.

Of course I have to post this because not everyone has friends that would agree to cannonball into a pool all at once - its not very ladylike.

And then of course my all time favorite...fireworks!

So that about does it for my week overdue 4th of July post...I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!

Just Another Handbag

About a week ago I got home from work and there was a package on my doorstep.  I wondered who it was from out loud and of course at the time I was on the phone with Dan.  Since we don't get to talk all to often these days, I proceeded to open the package while I was still chatting with him instead of calling him back.

"Well what is it?" Dan ask me as I opened up the box.  Sigh....it was the bag I had posted about weeks ago and it was from Dan (he had the company write a note that was inside the bag!).  He totally knew that it would be coming in the mail and wanted to be on the phone with me when I opened it.  I love surprises especially when they are from this guy....

I don't think there are too many men in this world that would feel comfortable picking out a hot pink bag with a huge flower on it....but that's just the kind of guy Dan is.  And since I know your reading this Dan, thank you sooooooo much!
