homemade applesauce

In the Northeast apple season is among us.  We had a whole bowl of apples that Dan's parents had picked for us.  Just about the sweetest gift.  Well, we weren't about to eat all of them so I turned them into homemade applesauce.  This recipe is a great one for the holidays months and is makes your house smell delicious.

Place 8 to 9 small to medium peeled and sliced apples into a sauce pan.  Add 1 and 1/2 cups of water to the apples and place over medium heat.  Then add about 1-2 tablespoons of brown sugar and cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.  Heat the mixture for about 15 minutes.  The apples will soften enough that you can mix them to desired consistency.

I promise you will love it.  This applesauce freezes great if you don't eat it all or just want to save some for later.  If you like this recipe for fall try my cream cheese toffee apple dip
Happy weekend!
